Curie out Battles Hyde Park
Chicago Public League Showdown
By Robert Thornton
Conference rivals, Curie Commodores and the Hyde
Park Thunderbirds clashed Tuesday night to see who can stand atop the Chicago
Public League Red Central Division.
Fresh off of an 81-71 (OT) victory against Gary Bowmen the Curie
Commodores did not show any signs of letting up against the Hyde Park
Thunderbirds. Both teams came out of the blocks fast and furious. Curie matched
Hyde Parks intensity in spite of the home crowd advantage for the Thunderbirds.
The first half ended 34-31 in favor of Curie. These
were the results of a very hard and defensive battle.
Curie 6-3 guard Devin Foster scored 23 points, Kyle
Davis led Hyde Park with 22 points seven
rebounds and six steals. Moshawn Thomas added eight points six blocks for Hyde Park.
Senior guard Malcolm Hill-Bey scored 15 points and
grabbed five rebounds, Thomas Smith scored eight points. Also, Curie’s 6-9
sophomore Cliff Alexander add four points and six block shots.
The Thunderbirds shot 5 for 11 from the line in the
second half missing four free throws in the fourth quarter.
Hyde
Park
was able to cut the lead to 63-61 after a basket from Marcus Smith with 50
seconds to play, but Curie made 2 of 6 free throws after that good enough to
seal the win.
